Here are some common misconceptions, and questions about Air Cadets
DON'T BE WORRIED!
DO IÂ HAVE TO JOIN THE MILITARY AFTER CADETS?
No. All Cadets are given the option, just as any other student, to pursue a military career after high school.
Our program will give cadets more information about the Armed Forces, so that they may make an informed decision at the end of their Cadet Career.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Nothing!
Cadets is a free youth program for anyone age 12-19. Uniforms, training, and equipment will be provided free of charge. We do ask that all cadets participate in fundraising throughout the year to cover some of the costs associated with trips.
I'M 15, CAN IÂ STILL JOIN?
Of course!
All Cadets above the age of 12, and below the age of 18 will be allowed into the program. However, the older the Cadet is when they join, the less they will be able to get out of the program due to time constraints.
If you are 15-17, and would like to join the program, please contact us so we can determine an alternate training plan at the unit.
CAN I GET MY PILOT'S LICENSE?
All Cadets are provided the opportunity to learn about aviation, and can apply to a course for their Glider or Private Pilot's License.
Our Flying Scholarship Course provides cadets with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in the Pilot program during the summer.
DO I GET PAID?
Actually, yes.
All Cadets participating in a Summer Training Course will be paid a Training Bonus of $10 per day, to a maximum of $60 per week. Staff Cadets (minimum 16 years) will be paid between $82-$101 per day for 7 weeks. Putting that into perspective, a cadet can make a maximum of approximately $5,000 during a Staff Cadet Appointment.
Cadets do not get paid for training throughout the school year, but will be awarded volunteer hours for eligible activities.
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO DEDICATE?
Generally, Cadets dedicate 3 hours every week for Monday Training. Other cadets attend Band or Drill Team, which adds 2 more hours to the week.
There are also some weekend activities we will hold throughout the year, however you will be notified in advance, and in some circumstances you may be excused.
